Marilyn Manson was refused entry into Cologne cathedral in Germany last week.
"It was probably because I was wearing lipstick," says Manson, conveniently forgetting that he used to tear up bibles and generally wind up Christians for a laugh.
Hey kaz. Why make all of these comments about a person you don't even know. Fine, I don't know the guy either but you can't be a sheep and judge people from what others read or hear about. He is a unique individual yes, but what is wrong with that? Wouldn't the world be a boring place to live in if everyone was the same? You lack discipline boy. For Marilyn Manson to be banned from a church is not so surprising (wrong, in my opinion, but not a shock). What is more shocking is the seemingly endless drivel spouted here. Apart from Kay, absolutely no one has written anything remotely intelligent here. It is no wonder that metallers generally are getting a poor reputation if this is the level of debate that can be expected and even less surprising that the current dross populating the scene is so poplular if people such as Kaz are representative.

It is like burning all of your opinions, all of your beliefs, and everything you are, spiritually. Since you obviously don't understand what the bible means to many people let me put it in lamen terms for you:
If someone were to burn your belongings - not things like your house, your computer as items, but things like musical memorabilia, things that shaped you as the person you are today, physically, emotionally, spiritually - I'm sure you WOULD give more than "half a flying fuck".
What the Church did is wrong of course, but Manson openally boasts his somewhat satanic and anarchistic side (his beliefs VS. sell-out?) and -wants- to be accepted into a place of God. To be perfectly honest, I think this is more about Germany's society than it is Christians. German society won't even let Tom Cruise film a War movie in the country because he's a scientologist. THAT's ridiculous for accepting people as they are.
Manson's intelligent, but how can't see that there's more than "it's because I was wearing lipstick" involved here?

Yes, I'm with you there Carolann. The Church says that they treat everybody equally no matter what they have done. But really, what has Marylin Manson ever done wrong? Nothing! Who cares
I've been to that cathedral in Cologne (or Koln) and its not that fantastic to be honest. The only cool thing about it is the huge organ which they test every so often.
It sounds so medieval and gothic which is probably one of the reasons why Manson wanted to go in there.
But as for him not being allowed to enter, whoever didnt allow him in there must have been tipped off about his past.
They will allow rowdy kids, teenagers and nearly anybody in that cathedral, so i dont see why not Manson.

Sadly I'm also a 'twat that likes classical music and rap'. Jesus I'm so uncultured and ignorant.
In all honesty when you attend various sites, particularly of historical or cultural interest they can and will refuse you entry based on a written or unwritten dress code and like it or not, that is how society works kids. You can rant and scream all you like but it's at their discretion as to who they refuse entry in the same way that a club or bar might.
Yes religion is incredibly stupid and hypocritical. So is being unable to see the consequences of your own actions.

I think they were right to refuse Manson entry to the cathedral for the same reasons as Angharad said above, but as for all this "why didn't the christians welcome him with open arms" bullsh*t i'm afraid i disagee.......just because someone is a christian (and i'm not incidentally) it doesn't mean they're willing to take whatever cr*p people throw at them - they have limits too you know. I'm sure most of the time they would be forgiving - but even the bible says you have to ASK for forgiveness and therefore WANT it - not just EXPECT it. That's what's up with people these days - everyone expects that the world owes them something. Like burglars that sue when they get shot by the person whose house they're robbing. Grrrr. But I also see the point of the owners Cologne Cathedral. You have to look at it from their perspective, would you like a person who stands for everything your against (whether you believe in it or not) invading your 'personal' space? Personally I dislike organised religion, however I can also see the point of why the cathedrals owners would not like Mr. Manson entering their establishment. I mean I got outraged when they started burning Maiden CD's after the release of NOTB SO i can see why Manson's past actions involving a bible would outrage certain people - in this case the Cologne Cathedral.

If I wanted to join my local cricket, tennis or bowls club (not that I would), they have a dress code and if i was dressed like Marilyn they probably wouldn't let me in.
(Not saying the way he dresses is bad)
The company or establishment that a person wishes to enter reserves the right to refuse service or entry to anybody. This also includes the cathedral and its grounds.
As to the reason why they didnt let him enter, I doubt that the reason was a religious one, seeing as everyone is welcome to learn about religion.
Final say on the matter is this,
If the person who didnt let Marilyn in to the cathedral was to go to Marilyns house, or a concert of his, would he be let in even though he'd be wearing older attire?

I went there with my family ( I didn't have a say in the matter), and I was refused entry because I was wearing my wicked New Rock boots. I did have quite severe eye make-up on, but still . . . it's not Marilyn Manson's fault- they'd probably not even let fucking Jesus in!
