Green Day have recorded their own punk version of 'The Simpsons' theme tune which will feature in the forthcoming full-length movie starring America's favourite dysfunctional family.
The tune - originally penned by 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' composer Danny Elfman - will be released as a single to coincide with the film's US release on July 27.
'The Simpsons' creator Matt Groening has confirmed that the Californian punks will also appear in the film.
"They're really good sports and I think we both honour them and 'Simpsons'-ize them," Groening tells MTV. "You can take that however you want. They're really nice guys."
Actor Hank Azaria, who provides the voices for many of the cartoon's characters - including the grouchy barman Moe Szyslak - says that the band are in for a rough ride during their 2-D Hollywood debut.
"Moe yells out obnoxious stuff to Green Day while they're performing," Azaria smiles. "They don't play at Moe's Tavern. They perform elsewhere in the movie; they're outside. And the whole crowd turns on them!"
The single will be released in the US through Warner Brothers on July 24 and will also appear on the film's score which is released the same week. 'The Simpsons Movie' hits UK cinemas on July 27.
