Download in danger

Thinking of hurling bottles at bands like My Chemical Romance at this year's Download festival?

Think again, as those fleeting moments of twattery could make the festival less appealing to headlining bands and jeopardise next year's festival.

The news emerged at a Download Festival fan forum on April 27, where a hand-picked selection of fans met with the organisers Live Nation in London and discussed every aspect of the three-day event.

"If Download didn't book acts of the pulling power of My Chemical Romance, it would die," says Live Nation director Stuart Galbraith. "The bigger bands support the smaller ones."

In other news, a number of bands have been added to the festival which takes place at Donington on June 8, 9 and 10. Joining the festival are As I Lay Dying, Silverstein, Flood Of Red, LostAlone, Architects, Priestess, Panic Cell, My Alamo, Damone, Cat The Dog, Voodoo Six, In This Moment, Fastway, Cynic and Fair To Midland, who are signed to SOAD frontman Serj Tankian's Serjical Strike label.

Tickets for Download 2007 are on sale now. Prices are as follows: a full weekend ticket: £125, camping: £20, Parking: £5 for the weekend (£10 on the day) and lockers: £5. There are a variety of ticket packages available to buy. Log onto www.downloadfestival.co.uk for the full list. This year's campsite opens at midday on Wednesday, June 6 and will close at noon on Monday, 11. Yesh, My Chemical Romance are good but if you don't like them, go on a different date, don't throw bottles at them!

It may be funneh at the time but like it says, what if it does jeopardise next years festival!

I do like MCR, and many other bands too, but the easiest thing to do is if you don't like them is simply not go on the date they are playing, or put your fingers in your ears whilst they're playing!

You shouldn't call anyone emo if you don't know what it is, which, I'm guessing you don't, since you've just called My Chem that. Tehcnically, they're classed as rock. Sorry to disappoint all you MCR-haters out there. I know you can't think of anything else to call them, so, find another band to pick on, aight?

My Chem just generally prefer to write about the darker things in life, like most bands do (either that or being in love. *yawn*). I think it's much more interesting that way anyway, and hence, am an MCR fan.

And even if I wasn't a fan, I'd still argue this point - Just because YOU don't like them, there are many reasons (that you may not see) that other people DO like them.

And throwing bottles at them last year at Download was just awful. It was uncalled for, and I was totally put off by it. Bands should be able to play to their fans without fear of getting hit with bottles of urine!

Is it totally wrong to think that?

Maybe MCR have pulling power, but their pulling power at a festival like this is seriously a minority...and in all honesty, there isnt not enough kerrang friendly emo bands playing over the course of the whole weekend to bring the EMO fan base that MCR are expected to pull.
And when you consider, a flavour of the month band for 13 year olds like MCR being above genre defining, and highly influential band like Megadeth, Slayer, Korn, Manson, Motley Crue...need i go on...
MCR belong at Download, i dont like them personaly, but their position at the top of the bill, or even on the main stage in general is highly ludocrus.

Plenty of bands have insults thrown at them, not everyone likes every band. There's a simple underlying fact though, that EVEN LESS PEOPLE LIKE MCR. You appear somewhat ignorant to that. Shame.

Personally I have no problem with Mcr playing download,to be honest Id rather have my kids listen to them than the new girls aloud shite or whatever. But its there position on the bill that has sparked all the conflict. When you have have slayer,dream theater and megadeth all playing the same festival in lower slots I cant stop thinking that livenation have just gone for the most commercially sucessful option at the moment as a way to shift some more tickets. But then again if slayer were headlining id be torn between them and koRn at least im in no doubt as to where I'll be on the friday night, see you all at koRn.
Ps You wouldnt bottle someone on the street because you didnt like their music,people only do it at festivals because they feel safe from retaliation which is exactly why chavvy people never dare give anyone shit when there on their own.Dont be a chav dont throw bottles go see koRn .peace.

tehy are going to get bottled whether they like it or not people are going to set out on the mission of seeing how long they can last for on the stage. there is nothing that live nation can do about it its going to happen either way, i personally dont like em so il go and see korn but i can see what happened at prodigy last year happening again which is going to ruin it for loads of people, also all the people that cant see korn are going to go and bottle MCR as something to do, iv read somewhere that korn asked for that slot but as there are 2 places free on main stage friday i dont know why they wont play during the day on friday. anyway i dont see MCR lasting on the stage very long they are going to get bottled the ratio of metal heads to people (emo's) wanting to see MCR is going to be so great i can only see trouble coming of it.

MCR is the least likely band there to have pulling power out of any headlining band at download.

Heres a thought: maybe they put KoRn and MCR on at the same times on Purpose.

People with MCR taste can see MCR.

Everyone else (which is just about 7/8ths of people at the festival) can go see KoRn.

Mcr are not worthy of playing that spot in download...yes people may like them but i think someone like Megadeth or Marylin Manson is More suited to that positon.mcr WILL get bottled.i personally wont bottle them but just look what happened to them at the last festival they played...

ok for a start i have to state i love mcr, korn, metallica and maiden..so my dilema is who am i gonna see korn or mcr...
but my main reason for adding a comment to this silly arguement is to state a simple fact.. but please correct me if im wrong..

when a band is said to be playing *emo* music.. they are in fact playing the genre of ROCK called, * EMOtional ROCK* am i right??

Finally someone who knows what emo actually means. I have to say I love MCR but i'm not 12, i'm 17 and not an emo and most of my friends who like them are older than me or at least the same age. In fact, at the gig in Manchester i was standin beside some guys who were at least 40, so there not all fans are emo kids. Also if any of you were really fans you'd know that mcr hate it when people describe them as emo! Saying that, I do know some emos and they do not slit their wrists, that is just a stereotype so shut up! MCR sing about stuff that really affects people's lives, but yes I do agree that 10 year olds are too young to get it!

Mindless Self Indulgence is pleased to announce that they will be playing a very special show at the Mean Fiddler in London, Monday, April 30th for just £8.00!

We gave kids on the MSI mailing list first swing at these tickets, so many are already gone. Be forewarned, tickets for the other two Euro headlining shows sold out very quickly -- though those shows were moved to larger venues to accommodate demand, this London show will -NOT- be. When these tickets are gone, they're gone.

personally, i dont have a problem with mcr. im not realy into them but i get why people love them. I also see why people hate them. I ddnt mind 3 cheers as i listened with an open mind, however after trying the black parade i gave up. not my thing at all.

now, before anyone moans about me being biased. im not. so shh.

mcr, are popular. yes. they are successful, yes. BUT, the best EVER. im sorry, but no way. you cant compair a band like mcr to the greats as Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath.Even classics from other genres such a Bob Marley or The Beatles or Pink Floyd. Eventualy, MCR will not be looked on as a "classic" band in the same way as these "classics" are. Im sorry but they just WONT. (again. im not being biased so shh) For a Band to be one of the BEST EVER. They needed to Define Music at some point in history. The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Led Zep And Sabbath practicaly made rock what it is today. Anyone who denies that obviously doesnt know there music history. So to say MCR are on par or better than these classics is SLIGHTLY OTT. they are big yeah, they will b remembered 4 a while 2 come as a "goth, punk emo"(...whatever genre, i dnt realy care.) that were popular. but in the end they will disapear while one of the other classics will live on. THEY ARENT THE BEST...EVER. in other words...(AND IM STILL NOT BEING BIASED SO shhhh) dnt expect a 2030 MCR reunion like the sabbath reunion still going on these days.
